INDICAÇÃO GEOGRÁFICA DEFERIDA PARA O ARTESANATO DE CAPIM DOURADO DO JALAPÃO

GI GRANTED TO JALAPÃO'S GOLDEN GRASSES

The golden grass of Jalapão, a state park in the Brazilian state of Tocantins, was granted Geographical Indication ("GI") in the form of Indication of Source ("IS"). The golden grass is used to make bags, jewelry, baskets, and other pieces. The application was granted by the Brazilian Intellectual Property Office (INPI), and the grant was published on July 12, 2011 in its journal, Industrial Property No. 2144.

From the date of publication, the Association of Artisans from the region will have 60 days to pay the regulatory fee.

After this requirement is fulfilled, certification of registration will be issued and Jalapão will become Brazil's 10th (tenth) national product to be granted a GI. Such certificates guarantee the suitability and quality of the product, which brings a competitive advantage to certificate holder.

O INPI em sua Revista de Propriedade Industrial n 2114, publicada em 12 de julho de 2011, deferiu o pedido de Indicação Geográfica, na modalidade Indicação de Procedência, para o artesanato de capim dourado do Jalapão (TO), utilizado para confecção de bolsas, fruteiras, porta-jóias entre outras peças.

Com essa publicação, a Associação de Artesãos em Capim Dourado da Região do Jalapão, no Estado do Tocantis, terá 60 dias para comprovar, junto ao INPI, o pagamento da taxa para expedição do certificado de registro.

Essa será a décima Indicação Geográfica registrada no Brasil, este tipo de certificado garante a procedência do produto e sua qualidade, trazendo um diferencial competitivo para os seus detentores.
