NEW BRAZILIAN SYSTEM OF TRADEMARKS
The Director of Trademarks for the Brazilian Intellectual Property Office (INPI) met with technicians to present the trial version of new trademark system, the IPAS. The users will not have access, but its implementation will bring more speed to the review process.
SINPI's substitute has several advantages over its predecessor such as phonetic search, intelligent control, and the use of predefined texts, amongst others. These improvements will undoubtedly aid the examination of trademarks and consequently will speed up the process.
The new system was also informally presented, so that all could ask questions, test, and familiarize themselves with the new tool. Vinicius de Bogéa Camera, the substitute trademarks director, said that further meetings will be scheduled soon.
IPAS is expected to become operational later in the second half of this year. The system was developed by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and its deployment will occur in partnership between INPI and WIPO in order to meet the administrative and legal needs of Brazil.

O Diretor de Marcas Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Intelectual (INPI) reuniu técnicos para apresentar a versão de testes do novo sistema de marcas, o IPAS. Os usuários não terão acesso a ele, mas sua implantação trará mais velocidade para o processo de exame.
O substituto de SINPI, tem várias vantagens em relação ao seu antecessor, como a busca fonética, o controle inteligente, o uso de textos predefinidos, entre outras melhorias. Melhorias estas que, sem dúvida, irão impulsionar o exame das marcas e, consequentemente, irão acelerar o processo.
O novo sistema teve uma apresentação informal, para que todos pudessem fazer perguntas, testar e familiarizar-se com a nova ferramenta. Vinicius de Câmera Bogéa, Diretor de Marcas substituto, disse que outras reuniões serão agendadas em breve.
O IPAS é esperado para entrar em operação ainda este ano, no segundo semestre. O sistema foi desenvolvido pela Organização Mundial de Propriedade Intelectual (OMPI) e sua implantação ocorre em uma parceria entre o INPI e a OMPI para atender às necessidades administrativas e jurídicas do Brasil.
